Emma Richardson ‘Eagle Opportunities’ Section now online!

We love Brummy born skateboarder, and good friend Emma Richardson. She may have left our little island to “fix stuff” in le france, but she is still out there killing it and even popped back to see us for Claire Alleaume’s hen party skate tour last weekend.

Check out her full section from the Spread Eagle skate video, ‘Eagle Oppurtunies’ here…

“Nina Auerbach may not appreciate the various stylistic complexities of the backside smith or even own a hecka tight dressing gown , come to think of it she’s probably not even heard of Brum skate legend Emma “tinyhands” Richardson , Luckily for you you wont have to listen to any feminist theory . All you have to do is watch some skateboarding , some of which is sound tracked by a woman who’d won ten grammy awards by the time she was twenty years old.”

Push the Prom 2015 Travel Info!

Push The Prom is almost here, with less than three weeks to go… we have gotten some more rad sponsors on board, including Diamond, Grizzly, Penny, Brah Boys, Waxx and more! Those hoping attend should get their travel itinerary sorted ASAP as prices for hotels and trains are going up quickly.

Push-The-Prom

We are meeting at The Level Skatepark at 10am for those taking part in our free lessons, those of you not needing lessons can cruise around the park until we start the mini comps and jams.

The Level has existed in this spot for many years but recently it has been completely refurbished by Freestyle who have built a 1,400m sq. polished concrete skatepark where all of the old wooden ramps used to be. Opened in June 2013 it is now the centre of the skate scene in Brighton.

The park has good onsite amenities including a skate shop, public toilets and The Velo cafe where you can grab a bite to eat for lunch before starting our 3 mile push along the promenade.

The address is…
The Level Skatepark,
Lewes Road,
Brighton,
West Sussex,
BN2 9SA

Click here for a Google map!

The nearest train station to The Level skatepark is Brighton Station (about a 15 min walk / 10 min skate)

Follow Viaduct Road until you reach Ditchling Road and turn right, once here follow the road down until you see The Level.

OR  if you are meeting us at Hove Lagoon skatepark a little later on, you should travel to Portslade station (1 mile from the park) or Hove station (2 miles from the park) Brighton station is 3 miles from Hove Lagoon Skatepark.

By Bus:
The Level is very well served by buses. Brighton & Hove Buses’ frequent service 25 and The Big Lemon’s service 44 go to the east (Lewes Road) side, while many routes serve the Open Market stops in Ditchling Road or Oxford Street. These include the number 21, 22, 24, 26, 37, 37B, 38, 46, 48, 49, 50 and 81 routes. Further bus information and timetables.

Open Market bus stop: Exit the bus onto Ditchling Road and The Level should be in sight.

By Bike:
There are cycle lanes leading to the park from the city centre, including National Cycle Route 20. These allow cyclists to avoid using the busy roads either side of the park perimeter. There are several places to park and secure your bicycle around the park.

PLEASE NOTE: SOFT WHEELS will make the cruise along the seafront a lot more enjoyable so if you own any, bring them along and change them before we Push The Prom.

At almost 3 miles… It is quite a long way! 🙂

We will end up at Hove Lagoon Skatepark for some more jams and competitions to get rid of our stack of prizes!
Then an afterparty will commence at the Big Beach Cafe next to the skatepark.

WE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE ALL OF YOU THERE!

The ACL Replacement Surgery Doom…

Shelley Yates goes to the operating table this Sunday, at long last. And whilst we’re sad that she’s going to be on the injury bench for the entire summer, we are pretty stoked that it’s finally going forward and that she can start her recovery phase… then get back to shredding at full throttle!

We caught up with Shell this week to see how she’s feeling, read more below…

20150514-223149.jpg

“So, the day is nearly here… my ACL replacement surgery is Sunday eeekkk. I’ve been waiting for this surgery since January from a long term injury that happened originally 5 years ago.

I was skating my local (Jackson’s skatepark in Rochester, Kent) when a BMXer dropped in at the same time and went straight into me, I fell to my knee twisting it and snapping my ligament. This caused me to stopped skating for around 4 years, I used to have a roll around now and again but nothing serious.

Just over a year ago I picked my board up again and haven’t put it down since. Skating is more than a sport or a hobby to me, it’s my medicine that keeps me happy and fit. The doctors didn’t pick up on my torn ligament for years and I kept rolling and dislocating it, causing more problems.

When I skate I always wear a brace, but due to skating being a high impact sport, I have dislocated my knee even with the brace on and it now gives way when I walk.. so it’s time to get it fixed!

This means I have to hang up my skateboard for a minimum of 6 month, which is going to be hard for me because I pretty much skate every day. However, if I want to walk when I’m older then I need to get it fixed now.

“So kids don’t let injuries be ignored, rest fully when you’re asked but always come back to skating”

Huge thanks and shout out to Danni for pushing me to try new things and arranging the best girls events this year, I’ve never skated with as many girls and it’s been awesome.

Big shout out the Harlow boys, since September we have skated our butts off and got some rad footage, such a rad bunch of boys.

If you haven’t been to Revolution skate park in Broadstairs then go, the best bunch of boys around who are not only rad skaters but funny as hell, the park is amazing with a great atmosphere.

Finally a big shout out to everyone who I have skated with this year, I’ve never been more injured but never had as much fun… watch out October when I’m back skating stronger than ever.

See you in 6 months… Peace!    –   Shelldogg xx”
