Girls Skate Dublin!

Image

Our sisters over at Girl Skate Dublin don’t mess about, they have a girls night EVERY SINGLE WEEK at their local indoor (looks like we need to step it up!)

It’s held every Monday at SOFD (Skatepark Of Dublin), from 7pm until 10pm – Just €5 on the door for the three hour session.
We caught up with Marie Jeanette, a regular at the girls sessions to find a bit more out on these nights…

“We have a diverse age group from 13 to 30+. It makes for such an interesting group dynamic but our sessions are fun and easy going. We have a beginner/intermediate ability at the minute but everyone is progressing so fast I’d imagine this time next year there will be some serious shredders in the group.

We do a monthly night in Mabos, which is a creative hub in Dublin city centre. The vibe here is a bit different then SOFD as everyone is usually concentrated on skating the mini (the only thing to skate) or chilling out and watching skate vids.”

So if you’re in the area and fancy meeting some new skate buddies, wanting to try out a new sport/hobby, or even just to get fit for summer… head on down & get involved!

Zeta Rush No Comply Queen!

Good morning!!

Since yesterday’s Facebook post of Zeta Rush with her no comply variations had almost 3,000 hits in less than 12 hours, we thought you’d probably like to see the full minute.

That’s 23 no complies… And probably more tricks than we’ve even got!!

Emily turns 7!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUU!

We are all wishing Emily Holt a VERY happy 7th birthday here at Girl Skate UK! Emily spent her 6th year on this planet learning how to skateboard with the help of her very encouraging Dad, and just last fortnight she placed 1st in the Girls Under 12’s competition, and also won the title of ‘Best Girl’ at the Malmesbury Abbey Skate Comp in Wiltshire!

Emily will hopefully be at this years Girls Skate Jam in St Albans on June 28th, repping it for the younguns!Image

Keep shredding Emily!

Lucy gets crafty

Have you ever imagined how rad would it be to ride a board you made with your own fair hands? Well, Lucy Adams has been busy (as always!) doing exactly that! She teamed up with carpenter Dave Simmons to make her very own custom shaped deck – literally from scratch, from glueing the plys to cutting the shape, it was all 100% handmade!

In Lucys own words…

Plaining

“Last year I started a project with David Simmons who offers a custom made skateboard making service in his workshop in Worthing, West Sussex. I learned every step of the process from gluing to the shaping with the help of David! I then sent my board up to Lovenskate for screen printing and now I’m riding it!”

Check out this video of the making process, along with some bonus skate footage once it was complete!

Rad. We are well into DIY here at Girl Skate UK so give us an e-mail over at girlskateuk@gmail.com if you are working on similar projects – whether it’s making your own boards or even your own skate spots… we would love to hear from you!

Lois Pendlebury for Route One

We thought that we’d kick off our news feed with some Hellos, and what better way to start than to introduce some of the UK’s finest?!
For those of you that have been skating for a while, this will be a very familiar (and friendly!) face… but for anybody unaware, we would like you to say a big HELLO to a very good friend of ours…

OUTFIT-5-Lois003_bw_750Lois Pendlebury has been on the scene for what seems like forever and it’s safe to say that she is one of the best female skaters this country has to offer, a proper mini ripper who skates hard & fast and ALWAYS with a smile on her face. We’re stoked you’ve found a new home at Route One Lois, and (un)patiently await the welcome clip!
In the meantime check out this silly edit with Lois skating a gnarly little DIY bowl in some far away land. You can also read the official welcome article and watch some more footage over on the Route One site.
