Crossfire have posted a really rad and well written article properly covering the pros and cons of Skateboarding in the Tokyo 2020 olympics…
Make sure you read the full article by clicking either links above or below the snippet. A must read!

“Firstly, the Olympics will raise skateboarding’s profile with governments, charities and corporate sponsors, resulting in increased funding and better facilities.
Secondly, competing in the Olympics will lead to parity of esteem for professional skateboarding against both more established ‘action’ and mainstream sports, resulting in better sponsorship deals, wider exposure, and, consequently, increased grassroots participation as a generation of little kids get new heroes.
Thirdly, as Lucy Adams said in her recent Sidewalk interview, if organised skateboarding wants to be in the Olympics, it has to treat female skaters better. This helped force Street League’s hand: “Street League needed women because that’s the ISF’s perspective of how a sport is going to join the Olympics… They needed us more than we needed them – no women, no Olympics.” The IOC have confirmed that the five new sports considered for inclusion in 2020 will have “equal numbers of teams for men and women.”

The Free Life: Skate Stories by Hannah Bailey // Lomography Gallery Store Soho – 9th June to 5th July
The Free Life encompasses those moments when you step away from digital devices and decide to live in the real world.

As a photographer Hannah Bailey has always opted to shoot analogue and, inspired by the present and inspirational nature of skateboarding, she has captured stories of women who get on boards.
Her latest project is The Free Life magazine, which brings together a crew of female creatives with a passion for action sports to collaborate and story-tell. Through the magazine they present the inspirational role models that exist in action sports and adventure, and hope to produce an example of positive media for women and girls to live by.
For her first ever solo photography show, Hannah Bailey rolls out 5 skate stories captured by her analogue cameras over the past 4 years; from London to Los Angeles, Copenhagen to Crawley.
Join Hannah for the opening night at the Lomography Gallery Store Soho on June 9th from 6-9pm, we are truly gutted we can’t make it so have a beer for us! X
