Eloise Dörr “3rd St” Solo Exhibition

3rd St” is a solo exhibition by Eloise Dörr, exhibiting paintings she has completed throughout the year inspired by her trip to San Francisco in 2013.

Eloise’s work consists of small silhouette characters skateboarding and falling over in various colourful environments. The idea behind this is to create a microcosm of pure innocence. A selection of the paintings in the show are directly referenced to skateboarding and the architecture in San Francisco, while others are simply inspired by the weather and other light hearted aspects of the area.

One of the key reasons she chose this city for her theme is the David Hockney retrospective exhibition which she visited during her trip at the de Young museum. His eclectic style and colour palettes are the main inspirations she draws from his work. This, paired with the great weather, culture and architecture of San Francisco, are what influenced this exhibition.

All of the paintings exhibited are painted with acrylic, either on plywood and broken skateboards, with a few exceptions on perspex. Wood is mainly used as she finds it holds blocks of bright/light colours well, which is important for the effect that Eloise tries to achieve with her work. Painting on the back of perspex creates a flat, cartoon-like look which is also effective for the theme.

The name of the show came directly from the way streets are named in San Francisco (and the US), 3 being chosen as it is Eloise’s 3rd solo exhibition.

The goal of the show is to create a setting of complimenting colours and innocent environments for the visitors to simply enjoy.

The launch night will be on Friday the 27th of January 2017 at 6.30PM where there will be free beer for your enjoyment.

Happy Birthday Kirsty!

A VERY happy 30th birthday to Kirsty Tonner!

For those that don’t know, Kirsty is a super important cog in the Girl Skate UK dream machine. She helps to organise all those super rad events you attend, helps to manage the blog and social media pages, films a load of the clips you watch on our YouTube channel and is always willing to drive us up and down the country in the name of skateboarding.

She does all of this whilst holding down a regs 9-5, being a fully qualified skate coach at ‘The Skateboard School‘, and somehow still manages to find the time to skate more than anyone else I know. She also has a MEAN nollie flip.

If you wish to join us to celebrate Kirsty entering her third decade, then come along to the House Skatepark in Sheffield tonight from 9pm-Midnight for a party and skate, with live music.

Bring your own drinks and wrap up REALLY warm! 18+
