FIRST FEMALE BACKFLIP IN SOUTH AFRICA

Yesterday, Alana smith made history yet again, (last year she became the first girl in documented history to land a 540 McTwist in competition at the age of 12, won a Silver medal at X Games Barcelona AND holds the Guinness World Record of the youngest X Games Medalist!)

Here she is, now 13 years old and the first woman to land a backflip on the Super Ramp which won her the Kimberly Diamond Cup BEST TRICK contest!

That girl is RAD.

Here are some highlights from the KDC Super Ramp Best Trick. Watch Jono Schwan, Andy MacDonald, Alana Smith, and more.

Kimberley Diamond Cup Results

20141004-013910.jpg On the 3rd of October, several of the world’s most talented female skateboarders were invited to compete at the Kimberley Diamond Cup Women’s Street World Championships, which boasted a $40,000 prize purse. The level of skateboarding was ridiculous, Alexis Sablone absolutely smashed it with her famous kickflip front fifty down the hubba but it was Samarria Brevard that came away with 1st place and the $15,000 grand prize after her flawless runs.

Brighton She – Shredders Up For National Award!

She-Shredders-PhotoLargeWe are super stoked for Lucy Adams and the Brighton She Shredders for being one of just three projects shortlisted for the for the ‘National Sportivate Project of the Year’ Award – They find out whether they came 1st, 2nd or 3rd at an awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament on the 21st of October!

A thriving girls skateboarding scene is the result of the weekly sessions that were held during the second half of 2013 at the Level Skatepark and also at Brighton Youth Centre Skatepark. The She-Shredders have now set up a weekly girls only skate club on Thursday nights at Brighton Youth Centre.

“UK Number 1 female skateboarder, Lucy Adams, coached twenty-six beginner female skateboarders aged 16-25 during the two-hour weekly sessions, set up by Brighton & Hove City Council Sports Development Team.

Participant Louise Ting, said: ‘Since I was a kid, I’ve wanted to learn to skateboard but never had the confidence to go to a skate park. She-Shredders gave me the opportunity to get back on my board and meet other people who want to learn to skate‘.

The ‘Push the Prom’ event for International Skateboarding Day was held in July, in partnership with Girl Skate UK, and saw over 100 female skateboarders cruise along Brighton seafront, joined by Olympic snowboarder, Jenny Jones.”

GNARLY HILLBOMB FACEPLANT

610Slam4

Ivy Martin @elivymartin took a pretty bad slam to the face this week whilst hill bombing in Austin, Texas. Thrasher magazine caught up with the Ivy to see if she was ok…

“I will attempt to bomb any hill. I had bombed this particular hill with a regular skateboard, but yesterday was the first time I had ever attempted to bomb any hill on a longboard. I rarely even ride a longboard. I wanted to get a clip of me bombing the Barton Springs hill, so my boyfriend Zach set up his phone in a tree branch and we were attempting to do a test run for our clip.

I ended up with road rash all over my body. My thigh and elbows are especially shredded. I got two pretty big cuts on the top of my head, along with tons of asphalt in my hair and two huge gashes above my left eye. Not to mention I only have half an eyebrow now. The doctors decided not to do stitches and I was not diagnosed with a concussion.”
