We are super stoked for Lucy Adams and the Brighton She Shredders for being one of just three projects shortlisted for the for the ‘National Sportivate Project of the Year’ Award – They find out whether they came 1st, 2nd or 3rd at an awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament on the 21st of October!
A thriving girls skateboarding scene is the result of the weekly sessions that were held during the second half of 2013 at the Level Skatepark and also at Brighton Youth Centre Skatepark. The She-Shredders have now set up a weekly girls only skate club on Thursday nights at Brighton Youth Centre.
“UK Number 1 female skateboarder, Lucy Adams, coached twenty-six beginner female skateboarders aged 16-25 during the two-hour weekly sessions, set up by Brighton & Hove City Council Sports Development Team.
Participant Louise Ting, said: ‘Since I was a kid, I’ve wanted to learn to skateboard but never had the confidence to go to a skate park. She-Shredders gave me the opportunity to get back on my board and meet other people who want to learn to skate‘.
The ‘Push the Prom’ event for International Skateboarding Day was held in July, in partnership with Girl Skate UK, and saw over 100 female skateboarders cruise along Brighton seafront, joined by Olympic snowboarder, Jenny Jones.”
