SKATE LIKE A GIRL // SEATTLE

It is still rare to see girls and women participating in this sport. Why is this? Many girls would describe skate parks as unwelcoming and intimidating due to their, male-dominated culture.

Seattle-based non-profit Skate Like a Girl has a mission to change this through providing programs that include free skate lessons in the summer, teen volunteer programs and all inclusive co-ed lessons geared towards building up our youth.

Studies have shown that girls take more risks in a co-operative female-based environment. Skate Like a Girl has created a place for girls to skateboard that is welcoming and supportive. We provide skateboards and safety gear if needed, instructors, and a fun program that helps kids to learn from scratch or build on their skills.

$10,000 would cover our annual operating costs and aid in expanding our current programs by gaining and training more instructors and purchasing additional loaner equipment (boards, helmets, pads, etc) to ensure we can keep running through 2017 and grow for years to come!

$3000 for instructor costs

$2000 for facility rentals

$2000 for new volunteer training and safety certification

$2000 for new skateboards and safety gear

$500 for new staff uniforms

$500 for marketing

Skate Like a Girl’s mission is to build confidence through skateboarding and we thank you for your support! Female skaters are the fastest growing demographic in skateboarding, and in 2015 the IASC reported that 32% of casual skateboarders are female.
