CANOE INC. PRESS EVENT

Last week Girl Skate UK were kindly invited to Canoe Inc‘s Press Event in London. We got a sneak peek of some top street-wear brands’ Spring/Summer 2015 collections and of course, we wanted to share what we spotted with you!

Volcom

Volcom was the first company to combine surfing, skating and snowboarding under one brand. Volcom’s desire to draw outside the lines and to react on what instinctively comes from inside sets them apart. Late nights spent at shows, early dawn trips fuel the desire to create a line that encompasses the Volcom lifestyle.

And we love it! This SS15 collection offers a host of striking tie-dye, leopard and tropical floral prints and a strong denim collection, whatever your style, from cut-off and boyfriend fit shorts to coloured, distressed and ripped jeans. Volcom’s bikinis are water-tested by their surf team, and are not only up to the job of tearing around on the open waters but also look bangin’.

And as for that ‘Rad Vibes’ atlas cap… Woah! Our particular fave 🙂

Burton

Building quality snowboard equipment since 1977, independently owned Burton are the ultimate snowboard brand, making everything from snowboards, bindings and boots to a comprehensive range of clothing, luggage and accessories. And Burton are the worlds best selling snowboard brand for good reason.

Okay, so we know that Burton are a snowboard rather than a skateboard company, but that doesn’t stop them from producing some pretty sweet backpacks (with straps ideal for carrying your deck), luggage and clothing for both colder and warmer climes.

The watercolour-style jellyfish print caught our eye… Used on a hoodie, lightweight zip-up as well as a vest (with a nice little twisted back-strap detail), which were super cute AND practical. Our kinda style!

The bold stripes and marbled-effect designs on another two vests were pretty rad too, but we were definitely lusting after the backpacks and luggage bags from the SS15 Burton range! Just looking at them has made us start thinking about booking our Summer 2015 skate trips already…

KR3W

When it comes to garms in the skateboard industry, we have to mention KR3W. You’ll find jeans, jackets, hoodies, and KR3W hats on riders all over the world. With pieces to cover all aspects of skateboard and street-wear style, KR3W are a favourite for skate stars like Chad Muska, Jim Greco, Tom Penny, and many more.

Fusing art & music with skate and street styles and influenced and assigned by some of the worlds best riders, Kr3w provides he clothing riders want most. Kinds funny coincidence maybe, be we spotted a rather cool Kr3w long0sleeve tee that had palm trees and ‘Endless bummer’ printed on it… nod the the new Palace Skateboard video that dropped last month maybe? You decide!

We also saw a rather interesting book on their stand too, ‘Touch Me I’m Sick’ by Charles Peterson whose grunge videos seemed to have influenced a section of their SS15 collection.

“Poised at the epicentre of an explosive underground scene, photographer Peterson witnessed the birth of  brash new era of music that grabbed the world by its throat and refused to let go. Grunge, the bastard child of 60s garage and 70s punk, revived the original, gritty spirit of rock and roll: rebellion ain’t pretty, but it sure is fun.” – Book excerpt.

Vans

In 1966, the Van Doren Rubber Company opened for business in Anaheim, CA. Soon, Vans’ simple canvas shoes became a staple at the beach and throughout Southern California. Not long after, SoCal teens found that Vans’ sticky gum rubber sole and sturdy construction made the shoes perfect for skateboarding; making Vans the world’s first skate shoe company. Almost 50 years later, Vans still strives to create durable footwear for those that value quality and freedom of expression. Those beach staples have evolved into a full line of Vans Classics that pay homage to their surf and skate heritage.

Unfortunately Vans didn’t allow any product photography, but we did manage to track down some patterns that will be included in their SS15 collection! The Polka Dots and Stripes you will see on the new Classic Slip Ons and the Liberty prints on Old Skool & Era models!

We’d really like to thank Canoe Inc. for a great day and for looking after us so well! And we hope you’re just as excited as we are to see the SS15 items dropping next year.

What’s your favourite piece? Let us know what you think!
