FAQ

Who can apply?

Anyone looking to make a difference in their local communities can apply! Priority will usually be given to projects focused on womxn, non binary and marginalised members of the community, however we are open to looking at any projects you feel may be of benefit to the wider skate community.

What sort of projects can I run?

We are happy to hear any ideas for projects aimed at making an impact on the skate community. Maybe you want to make a short film of your community to encourage others to get involved? Maybe you’d like to host a local skate competition, a crew trip, build a DIY spot or organise a cleanup at your local skatepark with some pizza and beers after?! We could even possibly help with travel or accommodation costs if you’re struggling to get to a competition. We’d love to hear what you’ve got in mind!

What other help is available for my project?

Besides a grant, we can offer informal mentorshop for successful applicants. We awe happy to share with you the knowledge we have built up over the past 7 years to make your project a successful one. Whether you need help with securing a venue, creating your branding material, building a website, PR help, contacts, coaching tips or just plain old advice, we are here to help,

What sort of projects CAN’T I run?

We will not accept applications for personal or religious projects, holidays or friend getaways, We will look at where other funding sources could be available, and whether or not the The Girl Skate UK Community Fund is the appropriate avenue for your project. We will prioritise projects that look to either benefit, support, grow or engage the UK Skateboarding community.

When do applications open?

Our first round of applications open January 1st 2021 until January 31st 2021. Successful applicants will be contacted via email in February. Projects must be started within 6 weeks of your successful application confirmation. We aim to let all awarded project organisers know by February 14th.

How much can I apply for?

We are offering grants from £20 up to £200. Before applying, cost out your project to get an idea of how much you might need from us. The first fund pot we have available is £600, we will look at all projects and work out which combination of those we feel could make the most use out of the total fund pot for this first quarter.

Where does the money come from?

We are, and always have been, entirely self funded. Receiving no help from outside companies or organisations, we have always had to rely on ourselves to make things happen through events, merchandise sales and raffles. Our community fund is currently sustained through raffle sales, which we intend to run quarterly, hopefully replenishing our fund every few months for new applicants. We can’t guarantee this will be an ongoing project, but with your support we hope to run The Girl Skate UK Community Fund throughout 2021.

How can I donate to The Community Fund?

If you are a brand or company that want to support what we do, we would LOVE to hear from you. We are accepting donations to our fund, if you are not in a position to offer money but have some product that you are happy for us to raffle off, get in touch! Similarly, if you know brands that are keen to support UK female skateboarding, send them our way!  hello@girlskateuk.com
